On Monday, November 27th, 2023, the Ports Authority of the Turks and Caicos Islands (PATCI) launched its Manager on Duty (MOD) Programme which is a component of the new and exciting changes taking place in the Port. The MOD Programme is one of the strategies that will help strengthen professional relationships within the organization, especially relationships between managers and line staff. It was introduced under the theme “Bridging the Gap 2023 and Beyond”.
The MOD Programme requires all managers to actively work on developing closer professional ties with staff by routinely visiting the various work stations when on duty, observing the work environment with an eye focused on improvement, engaging in meaningful dialogue, and sharing recommendations for improvement at Managers’ Meetings. This initiative is a building block in fostering harmonious working relationships and transforming the working environment at PATCI.
In speaking with the Deputy Director, Ms. Lewis solidly aligns herself with the initiative and sees it as an opportunity to promote team building. Furthermore, Ms. Lewis envisages that in the near future managers would not have to be scheduled to perform such a duty, but that it would become a natural part of their job performance.
Mr. Dwayne Simons, PATCI’s Engineer, believes this initiative will not only give managers insight into the challenges that staff face, but also allow managers to appreciate the various daily activities performed by staff and equip managers to better resolve some of the issues confronted with.
