Ports Authority Opens New Port Complex in Providenciales Honoring Clinton Wilson

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – April 7, 2025 — A new chapter in the development of the Turks and Caicos Islands was marked on Friday, April 4, 2025 with the official opening and naming of the Clinton Wilson Port Complex in Providenciales. The state-of-the-art facility, now a cornerstone of the island's maritime infrastructure, was dedicated in honor of the late Clinton “TC” Wilson, the first director of the Ports Authority.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Deputy Director of Ports Shawna Lewis, and began with a warm welcome by Project Manager Lynco Williams, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to team who contributed to the landmark project: architects, engineers, construction workers, and port staff who poured their expertise and passion into making it a reality.”
The occasion drew remarks from several dignitaries, including the Hon. Arlington Musgrove, Minister of Physical Planning and Infrastructure Development, who emphasized the significance of naming the complex after Clinton Wilson. “He was a man of vision, integrity, and action,” said Minister Musgrove. “He dedicated his life to building strong institutions.”
Bringing remarks were Board Director Tueton Williams, who stated that “The new port complex is more than just a building. It’s a one-stop shop for all things shipping, designed to make operations smoother, more efficient, and precise.”
Hon. Rachel Taylor, Minister for Education, Youth, Sports and Culture and MP for the district, highlighted the economic ripple effects of the new port complex. “This isn’t just about infrastructure—it’s about impact. The improved efficiency and expanded capacity of this port can support more competitive pricing and may eventually lead to lower costs of goods for our people,” Minister Taylor noted.
Also delivering remarks, was Her Excellency Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam who praised the leadership and perseverance behind the project. “It takes vision, it takes determination and it takes hard work to drive delivery,” she said. “It was no small feat to get here, and particularly to deliver such a major infrastructure project while maintaining the continuity of operations. As we cut the ribbon, let it not just be about the opening of the building, but really the acknowledgement of the foundational pillars that you have built to enable the progression and economic success of the TCI.”
Director of Ports Delton Jones in closing remarks, celebrated the redevelopment of South Dock as a major achievement in establishing a world-class logistics hub. He expressed gratitude to Mr. Wilson’s family, and the expertise of the contractor. Mr. Jones also commended his team for their hard work and acknowledged the many stakeholders for their guidance and insights. “The Clinton Wilson Port Complex stands as a testament to growth, innovation, and excellence in the maritime sector,” said Mr. Jones.
The Clinton Wilson Port Complex is an 8,000 square-foot facility built at a cost of over $4 million by AEMS Construction. The building features four rental units that accommodate key stakeholders and local government departments, including Border Services, the traffic department, and the Ports Authority. The keys were symbolically handed over by Stephen Walkin to Port Engineer Dwayne Simons during the ceremony. This modern complex is designed to enhance national port operations, improve trade efficiency, and support the ongoing economic development of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
