CONTRACT FOR SOUTH DOCK PORT REDEVELOPMENT – CONSTRUCTION OF PORT OFFICE BUILDING, PROVIDENCIALES

The Ministry of Immigration and Border Services and the Ports Authority of the Turks and Caicos Islands are pleased to announce the signing of the contract for the Construction of a new Port Office Building (PN005561, TR 21/36, TCIPA 04/21) at South Dock in Providenciales with a local company – A E & S Construction Limited. This project marks the commencement of the South Dock Port Redevelopment project, which will take place over the next three to four (3-4) years, with several components.


The new Port Office Building will house the Ports Authority of the Turks and Caicos Islands and various Government Departments that regularly conduct business from inside the Port, such as the Immigration Department, Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Motor Vehicles. A new Customs Office as well as a Warehouse and Bonded Area for storing and inspecting imported vehicles will also be constructed as part of this project. Additionally, several office spaces will be constructed for rental to shipping agents. With the completion of the new Port Office Building, all civilian activities which currently take place inside the South Dock Port Facility will be transferred outside of the Port. This action will enhance Port Security procedures and improve the public’s safety.


The construction of the new Port Office Building includes resilient construction methodologies and green economy considerations. The duration of the construction is approximately six hundred and ten (610) calendar days, which will commence after the groundbreaking ceremony.


The Redevelopment of the South Dock Port Facility is consistent with the Turks and Caicos Islands Vision 2040 Document specifically, Necessary Condition 1.6: Adequate infrastructure (Transportation, Roads, Ports, Electricity, Water, and Telecommunications) which states, “Our infrastructure must be world-class by 2040” (page 25) The project is also consistent with several goals of The People’s Plan for Progress:- Transforming TCI through Inclusive Growth, particularly Goal 9: Resilient Infrastructure, Innovation and Industry and Goal 11: Sustainable, Inclusive safe and Resilient Communities.


Moreover, the project is also consistent with Goal 3: Resilient Ports of the Port Authority Strategic Plan FY 2018/19 – FY 2021/2022 and it supports Goal 1: Secure Ports and Goal 2: Safe Ports.


Other aspects of the South Dock Port Redevelopment project include:

1. Construction of two (2) new berths;

2. New Container Yards and Internal Roadways;

3. Dredging of a new Vessel Turning Basin;

4. Installation of Mast Lights Lighting;

5. Provision of Fire Service and;

6. Drainage improvements.
