FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Maritime Community Fair Celebrates World Maritime Day/ Heritage Day Through Engagement and Collaboration

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands:  The Maritime Community Fair, held on October 12, in observance of World Maritime Day (observed the last Thursday in September), brought together maritime agencies, industry representatives, and members of the public for a day of learning, engagement, and camaraderie.

Surrounded by the waters that have sustained generations of islanders, the fair provided an opportunity for the community to connect with organizations that play an important role in the maritime sector and the protection of our natural resources here in the Turks and Caicos Islands.  Through interactive activities, information sharing, and onboard vessel tours, attendees gained greater insight into services, responsibilities, and contributions of the participating agencies.

Participating vendors included the Ports Authority, Maritime and Shipping, the Turks and Caicos Regiment, the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Environment and Coastal Resources (DECR), and Island Brokerage and Customs Services.  Each organization contributed to the event by sharing information about its work and engaging directly with members of the public.

While the gathering offered an intimate setting, the level of engagement and interaction was abundant.  Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, learn about various aspects of the maritime industry, and experience elements of maritime operations firsthand through the vessels tours.  The event also fostered camaraderie among colleagues and strengthen relationships between participating agencies and the wider community.

Representatives of all participating vendors expressed their gratitude for the support shown by members of the public and welcomed the opportunity to engage with the community.  Collectively, they expressed enthusiasm for future collaboration and look forward to an even greater turnout at next year’s fair.

Special appreciation is extended to Turtle Cove Marina for generously providing its property for their event.  Its support helped create a welcoming and fitting environment for the celebration.  Sincere thanks are also extended to all participating agencies, and community members who contributed to the fair’s success.

The Maritime Community Fair underscores the importance of collaboration, public education, and community involvement in strengthening the maritime sector.  Events such as this create valuable opportunities to increase awareness of the work carried out by maritime organizations while encouraging meaningful connections between the agencies and the people they serve.

As plans for future engagements take shape, we look forward to building on this year’s experience, expanding community participation, and welcoming even more residents and visitors to next year’s fair.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and supported the initiative.  The continued interest and cooperation of the community and its maritime partners will be essential to the growth and success of future events.

END
