South Caicos celebrated a milestone in its economic resurgence as the island officially welcomed the scheduled cargo shipping services during a well-attended inauguration ceremony at the port. The event not only marked the restoration of a critical supply chain but also underscored the island’s growing momentum toward sustainable development.
Among the attendees were representatives from the Ports Authority, South Caicos community leaders, and key stakeholders from AL Services LTD and King Ocean, the official carrier for the cargo route.
Speaking on behalf of King Ocean, Jessica Higgs, Island Manager of the Providenciales office, described the launch as a significant milestone for the island:
“This milestone has been carefully planned and long anticipated, making it truly exciting to see it come to fruition. At King Ocean, we take pride in delivering top-tier service, and as we embark on this new journey, I want to reassure our valued customers in South Caicos of our unwavering commitment to excellence.”
Myles Hanchell, General Manager of AL Services LTD, King Ocean’s local agent, echoed this sentiment:
“This moment has been a long time coming, and we are excited to see it become a reality. At King Ocean we place a high premium on delivering quality service, and as we embark on this new and exciting journey, I wish to assure the people of South Caicos and the entire country of our continued commitment to satisfaction and excellence in their shipping experience.”
The Chairman in his remarks noted that the achievement was made possible by the dedication of King Ocean and AL Services supported by strong government leadership and strategic investments.
In his closing remarks, Director of the Ports Authority, Mr. Delton Jones, reaffirmed Ports Authority’s commitment to fostering growth and outlined ongoing infrastructure investments:
“The Ports Authority is dedicated to being a reliable partner with King Ocean and engaging with the South Caicos community to facilitate development on the island. We’ve already demonstrated this commitment—investing over $5 million in restoring the port following Hurricane Irma.

We currently have a government-partnered project valued between $2.5 million and $4 million, which is already out to tender. Recognizing the limitations of the current port, we are taking immediate steps to acquire additional land for expansion. The existing facility can accommodate only six containers, and we know King Ocean’s ambitions far exceed that. We are ready to support that growth.”
